This festive drink with Spanish roots is popular at get togethers with friends and family. It is easy to make and is an extremely flexible recipe to use different ingredients. The basics are a bottle of wine, fruit juice, sugar and some sparkling water or pop.

Notes
This is how I make Sangria, but don’t be afraid to experiment with other ingredients!
Ingredients
- 1 750 ml bottle of Red Wine (you don’t need anything fancy for this, an inexpensive Merlot even a Red Blend will work well)
- 1 cup orange juice (I use the juice of two oranges to keep it fresh)
- ½ cup spiced rum
- ½ cup honey
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1 lime, sliced
- 16 oz of orange seltzer water
- Optional Ingredient Ideas:
- Replace the honey with a simple syrup (1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup sugar, heat to melt all the sugar)
- Replace the selzter water with 7-Up or Ginger Ale
- Replace the orange juice with pineapple juice
- Replace the orange juice with cranberry juice to make a Christmas Sangria
- In addition to, or replacing the orange, lemon and lime slices:
- Pineapple chunks
- Strawberry slices
- Raspberries
- Peach slices
- Kiwi fruit slices
- Cranberries
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients but the carbonated water and chill all day or overnight.
- Add the sparkling water 15-30 minutes before serving and stir through.
- Serve over ice for a refreshing summer drink.
