Trail Mix
Trail Mix or GORP has been around for decades with a pretty basic mix of salty nuts and snacks, and sweet candy and dried fruit. It’s concentrated energy plus some protein for on the trail. You can buy it at camping supply stores, grocery stores, convenience stores and truck stops. But if you have bulk food stores in your area you can make your own exactly the way you like it: sweet, salty, or both; simple or complicated. We have several Amish or Mennonite stores in our area that have bulk cooking ingredients and candies so I like to make my own. My favorite ingredients include dried banana chips, dried tropical fruit (pineapple, mango, papaya mix), yogurt covered raisins, nuts, pepitas, sesame sticks, and M&Ms.
