Tomato Paste
Jump to recipe
No, this isn’t a recipe for making tomato paste from scratch. I’ve looked into that and it takes an insane amount of time and stirring.
This is an idea to save a little money and make some of your recipes a little easier.
There are a lot of recipes that call for a tablespoon or two of tomato paste. So you open a can, use what you need, and put the can in the fridge hoping you can use the rest of it in something else before it goes bad. Or, you can buy the fancy tomato paste in the tube, which is handy but really expensive. Or, you can try this . . .
Ingredients
- Tomato Paste – at many big box stores you can buy a flat of 12 cans at a very good price.
- Ice cube trays.
Instructions
- An ice cube section in most trays is very close to a tablespoon, so you don’t have to do any measuring.
- Open each can, and using a small spatula put tomato paste into each section of the ice cube tray.
- Freeze for a few hours.
- Remove from the freezer, pop the tomato paste cubes out of the tray, and put them into quart freezer bags.
