French Onion Dip

Ingredients
  

  • 1 onion sliced thinly
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 3/4 cup Miracle whip
  • or mayo + 1 ½ tbsp sugar & ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1/3 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Instructions
 

  • Combine the sliced onions in a bowl with the baking soda, salt and brown sugar and mix through. Allow to stand 10 minutes.
  • Place a skillet over high heat and add the butter and peanut oil.
  • When the oil is hot, add the onions and brown for about 20 minutes
  • Add the garlic at the very end.
  • Deglaze the pan if necessary, with some white wine, vinegar or water.
  • Remove onions from the heat and allow them to cool.
  • Mix the remaining ingredients together.
  • Fine chop the cooled onions and add to the dip.
  • Before serving, adjust seasonings to taste.
  • Garnish with chives, parsley or cilantro and paprika over top.
